Roof Coatings cover a broad aspect of roofing products.
There are some general categories, but every product doesn’t fit the box. Here are some of the characteristics:
Acrylics- easy installation, generally white, water-based, can be performed by novice installers. Acrylic roof coatings have little noticeable odor, and can be applied without disrupting the occupants. Typical we install on schools, residences, health care facilities and offices.
Urethanes- generally includes 1st layer of foam and top coat for membrane. The most misunderstood roofing system, complex and requires maintenance. Will generally pay for the installation in 5 -8 years, and has the highest “R” value of all other coating options. Some foam’s have high compressive strength, which may add structural integrity.
Elastomeric- generally the most elastic product, which return to their original shape after cooling. Great product for roof restoration without the amortized expense, generally can be paid for in just a few years. The most common way to save energy costs during hot summer months, is eligible for energy rebates and incentives.
EPDM (rubber)- originally designed for RV trailers and Motor Homes. Very close formulation to EPDM Sheeting and liners. Will tolerate standing water and is used for fish ponds and fountains.
Asphalts- fibered asphalt will penetrate, concrete and masonry. The most inexpensive of all roof coatings.
